The Birds and Beasts and the Carpenter

On a certain island there live a peacock and a peahen who are very careful of beasts and only leave their trees to eat at night. They meet a duck who is frightened of men and say they will protect him. He tells them how he met a lion cub, a donkey, a horse and a camel who were all fleeing humans. The lion met a carpenter who tricked him into entering a wooden box and then burned him inside it. After the duck has finished his story, a ship arrives at the island. The peafowl fly into their trees, but the duck freezes in place and is captured by the flock. The peafowl say that being captured was her own fault because he failed to praise God.
