Harun al-Rashid goes to rest but finds his bed disturbed, with traces of liquid, and believes that his wife Zubaydah has been cheating on him. He calls the judge, or qadi, Abu Yusuf, and asks him about the matter. Abu Yusuf notices a hole in the ceiling, and determines that the bed was contaminated by a bat; sure enough, he extracts a bat from the hole in the ceiling.

On another occasion, Abu Yusuf is supposed to judge some different fruits, but requires that the fruit be brought to him because it is unjust to judge someone who is not present.
